Get started

NIHILUS live chain is a browser guitar sim. Pedals, tuner, remote rig, and a private jam link. Public beta. Expect glitches.

Start the chain

On nihilus.app, open Play. On a computer, Allow the microphone so names appear, pick the interface, then Start chain. On a phone, tap Mic on. The phone asks for the microphone then. Use headphones if you can. Speakers can feedback.

The board

Pedals sit in pre, amp, and post lanes. Drag them. They snap to nearby edges. Click a pedal for the inspector. Add Player if you want a second local input on the same computer. Nothing here is cloud storage. Your board stays in this browser unless you save a .nih2 file.

Tuner

Arm the tuner pedal. Output mutes while it listens. The needle tracks cents: green is in. Click again to unmute. On a phone, the tuner uses the same input as the chain.

Remote rig vs jam

Two different private links. Both are peer-to-peer after a short handshake. Each side can see an IP. There is no media relay. If a direct path fails, the session fails. No NIHILUS TURN server.

  • Extreme Amp remote is a bookmarkable phone face for the Windows plugin. Open REM on the pedal, scan the QR, or open Remote control this amp from the Extreme product page and type the pedal id and key. Keep the link. Guitar and DSP stay on the computer. The pairing code lives on the amp and in the URL hash — not in nihilus.dev logs. New ID or New key on REM kicks every linked phone. Same STUN path as live chain: Google and Cloudflare. Same-network is best. No TURN. If a direct path fails, the session fails. On Windows, Allow Extreme Amp when the firewall asks — that prompt is Allow access, not a command prompt. Phone knobs stay local until status says Linked; then the desktop follows. If it never says Linked, tap Allow Extreme Amp on the pedal.
  • Remote rig on nihilus.app pairs any browser as a full controller for live chain. Move modules, knobs, pedals, and I/O. Guitar and DSP stay on the host.
  • Jam on nihilus.app lets a friend hear your processed guitar and optional talkback, and see a webcam if you turn it on. They cannot touch your pedals unless you allow control. Each person keeps their own board.

Install / use offline

You do not have to bookmark the page. In the live chain header on a computer, use Install (Chrome, Edge, Android) or Use offline. On a phone, open Control then More. On iPhone follow Add to Home Screen. That installs NIHILUS as an app and the service worker keeps it ready offline. Opening a downloaded zip of the site from disk will not work. The app needs https://nihilus.app.
